Yacht Delivery FAQs – Your Questions Answered

At Oceantrax, we understand that trusting someone with your yacht is a big decision. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our professional yacht delivery services. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please get in touch—we’re always happy to offer honest advice.

How much does a yacht delivery cost?

Every yacht delivery is different. The cost depends on several factors, including:

  • Distance and mileage

  • Departure and destination ports

  • Type, size, and speed of the vessel

  • Crew requirements

  • Time of year and likely weather windows

Because of this, every delivery is individually quoted.

Once we’ve discussed your requirements, we’ll agree a realistic timescale and provide a fixed delivery fee based on those variables. A 50% deposit is payable before departure, with the balance due on completion, plus:

  • Travel expenses

  • En-route fuel

  • Any additional days caused by equipment failure or extreme weather

All costs and daily rates are clearly outlined in your contract before the delivery begins.

What types of yachts do you deliver?

Our skippers and crew are highly experienced and fully certified to deliver a wide range of vessels up to 24 metres in length, including:

  • Sailing yachts (cruising, performance, classic, and racing)

  • Motor yachts and motor cruisers

  • Powerboats

  • Catamarans

We regularly handle both private and high-end yacht deliveries, tailoring the crew and passage plan to suit your vessel.

What happens if there are delays?

Each delivery is allocated a generous time window to allow for normal delays. However, weather conditions or unforeseen technical issues can sometimes cause longer hold-ups.

If we are forced to take shelter or carry out repairs and this exceeds the agreed delivery period, a daily rate will apply. This rate is clearly stated in your contract in advance—no surprises.

Where do you operate?

We offer a worldwide yacht delivery service.

While most of our work is based in Europe and the Mediterranean, we regularly undertake:

  • Transatlantic yacht deliveries

  • USA and Caribbean deliveries

  • Long-distance offshore passages

If you need your yacht moved safely and professionally, chances are we can help.

Do you operate year-round?

Yes. Our yacht delivery service operates 365 days a year, allowing us to plan passages around the best possible weather windows for your route.

What is the process once I book a delivery?

Once you decide to proceed:

Oceantrax will issue a contract and invoice for the deposit.

The owner must ensure the vessel is fully insured for the delivery.

We assign a suitable, experienced crew (usually a minimum of three, depending on the passage). Before departure, the yacht is thoroughly inspected, including:

  • Standing and running rigging

  • Sails

  • Engine(s)

  • Hull and structural areas

Any defects are documented and reported to the owner. If required, repairs can be arranged before departure.

The yacht is provisioned for the voyage.

Once underway, the vessel typically runs 24 hours a day, unless conditions or the yacht’s design require otherwise.

Stops are made only for fuel, shelter, or weather-related safety reasons.

On arrival, the yacht is cleaned, inspected, and any issues are reported before handover.

Owners are welcome to join the delivery if they wish—many enjoy using the passage as a learning and familiarisation opportunity.

What condition does my yacht need to be in?

All vessels must be seaworthy and equipped with appropriate safety equipment.

As a minimum, we require:

  • In-date liferaft

  • In-date flare pack

  • Working VHF radio

  • Proof of insurance

  • Vessel registration documents

  • Bill of sale and proof of VAT status (If crossing international borders)

If paperwork isn’t onboard, it can be sent to our office in advance.

If safety equipment is missing, please contact us—we may be able to arrange hire equipment or supply items through our industry partners at reduced cost.

For offshore or ocean passages, additional safety equipment may be required.

If your yacht has had a recent survey, we also ask for a copy of the report before the delivery.
